OUR FIRST PROJECT
Green Steel Indiana
Developing Durable Carbon Removal Through Enhanced Rock Weathering.
Green Steel Carbon is developing an enhanced rock weathering project in Northwest Indiana that aims to use of calcium-rich materials from steel production on agricultural land to support carbon removal and potential soil benefits.
Project Status: In Development

PROJECT OVERVIEW
Putting Steel Byproducts to Productive Agricultural Use
Green Steel Indiana is being developed around the connection between Northwest Indiana's steel industry, agricultural landscape, and the potential for durable carbon removal through enhanced rock weathering.
01 / STEEL SLAG FEEDSTOCK
Northwest Indiana’s steel industry produces calcium-rich materials that may be suitable for use in enhanced rock weathering. Green Steel Carbon is evaluating how these materials can be responsibly incorporated into agricultural applications.
02 / AGRICULTURAL PARTICIPATION
The project is being developed with a focus on agricultural land and engagement with farmers and landowners, including established and next-generation growers. Their participation and input would help shape how the project is designed and implemented.
03 / CARBON REMOVAL POTENTIAL
Enhanced rock weathering uses natural mineral reactions to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Green Steel Indiana aims to apply this approach while evaluating material suitability, agricultural considerations, and methods for monitoring and quantifying carbon removal.

PROJECT LOCATION
Focused on Northwest Indiana
Green Steel Indiana's initial development area encompasses eight counties in Northwest Indiana, a region where steel production and agriculture are both important parts of the local economy.
Lake · Porter · LaPorte · St. JosephÂ
Newton · Jasper · Starke · Pulaski
The initial geographic focus provides a starting point for evaluating agricultural land, material logistics, and opportunities for farmer and landowner participation as the project develops.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Starting the Conversation in Northwest Indiana
In September 2026, Green Steel Carbon hosted two Community Conversations in Northwest Indiana, bringing together farmers, landowners, agricultural professionals, and community members to introduce Green Steel Indiana, share information about enhanced rock weathering, and hear local perspectives.

Fair Oaks, Indiana
September 15, 2026
Green Steel Carbon introduced the Green Steel Indiana project and discussed enhanced rock weathering with local farmers, agricultural professionals, and community members.

Michigan City, Indiana
September 17, 2026
The second Community Conversation provided another opportunity to discuss the proposed project, answer questions, and hear perspectives from the local community.
